About David Houghton
David is a songwriter, rythmn guitarist and singer residing in the depths of the Wiltshire countryside.
Over to the man himself - "Celebrate The Weird" is my second professionally recorded studio album.
In 2005 I recorded "Can You See The Light" with Gypie Mayo on guitar and Sean McBride on saxophone.
The album was well received and I still like to play many of the tracks live.
The songwriting muse has stayed with me and in 2009 -2010 I went back into Riverside Recording Studios in Bath and in collaboration with Sebastian Pecchia who produced the album recorded "Celebrate The Weird".
On this album I felt it was more soulful than my previous songwriting so I hired Sean McBride on saxophone and harmonica, Anders Olinder on keys and Jimmy Copley on drums. Charlie Evans of Goldfrapp fame plays some lovely double bass on "West Hollywood" and some really nice bass on "Misunderstood". Terry Edwards plays trumpet on "Devastation City".
This album was heaviiy influenced by a two week trip to California in 2009 and at least 4 of the songs are a direct result of my experiences and observations from that vacation. The album has a transatlantic feel with both London and LA being strongly referenced.
I am indebted to Ellwood T Risk from LA for allowing me to use so much of his amazing imagery on the album and this website, we met in LA and are great friends now. If you watch Californication you will see his art popping up all over the place.
The album is a celebration of writers, artists and art itself with some reflective songs that whilst quite personal I am sure many people will be able to relate to.
Previously I have referred to myslef as Zenga but this persona is now residing somewhere in a bar in Las Vegas and is refusing to return to the UK. Also I have been advised that this album is much more "me" so to speak. So I hope you enjoy it! - Stay Crazy!! - David
